Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary

December 14, 2014, 12:30 PM

Chevalier's Books, 126 N. Larchmont Blvd., Los Angeles, California

Website | Email | 323-465-1334

This coming Sunday the legendary Peter Yarrow will be appearing at Chevalier’s Books and doing a small acoustic set before sitting down to sign copies of the new one of a kind book: Peter Paul and Mary: Fifty Years of Music and Life. The book chronicles the success of Peter Paul and Mary through breathtaking photographs and the band’s own recollections of their career as America’s most iconic folk group.  Mr. Yarrow will be appearing at 12:30 which leaves plenty of time to check out the weekly Larchmont Farmer’s Market before or after the event. We are very excited to host such an influential performer and hope this is just the beginning of many such events at the recently revitalized Chevalier’s. Look forward to seeing you at the store where we’ll have plenty of copies on hand for perusal or purchase.

Chevalier’s is co-owned by Bert Deixler, who has been a Big Sunday project captain (at Casa Madona) and served on Big Sunday’s board, too!

Rose Eichenbaum is one of the most respected photojournalists working in the arts today. A former graduate student in Dance Ethnology at UCLA set the ground work for a career dedicated to research, photographic documentation and the investigation of artistic creativity through performance.  Ms. Eichenbaum has authored several books, including The Dancer Within-Intimate Conversations with Great Dancers (2008) and her most recent publication, The Director Within-Storytellers of Stage and Screen (2014).

Zippora Karz, a former soloist ballerina with the New York City Ballet, danced with the company from 1983 – 1999. Based in Los Angeles, she now serves as a teacher and répétiteur for the George Balanchine Trust, rehearsing and staging Balanchine’s choreography for a host of national and international companies.  Her memoir, The Sugarless Plum (2011), details her childhood as an inspiring ballerina, her diagnosis of diabetes at 21, and her promotion to a soloist six years after being diagnosed. Her children’s book, Ballerina Dreams (2013), tells the story of a young ballerina with diabetes, who learns that she can continue to pursue her love for dance despite a major obstacle.

Victoria Tennant trained at the Central School for Speech and Drama in London before playing the title role in her first film, The Ragman’s Daughter aged twenty one. She has since acted extensively in film, television and theatre, receiving Golden Globe and Emmy nominations.  Her book Irina Baronova and the Ballets Russes is a memoir of her mother with over 300 vintage photographs that chronicle her life and the birth of ballet in America, set against the backdrop of the Russian Revolution and World War II.

PERFIDIA by James Ellroy

For the fifth installment of Tom’s Book Club, Tom Lutz, founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Los Angeles Review of Books, has chosen James Ellroy’s Perfidia (Knopf, September 2014). This epic, 700+ page novel by the “demon dog of American crime fiction” is an awe-inspiring vision of social, moral, and human chaos in wartime Los Angeles.

Our Facebook discussion group will begin on Monday, December 1st. On December 6th, we will host a live discussion between Tom Lutz and James Ellroy at Emerson College Los Angeles. The event is open to the public and Book Club members are guaranteed entry and premium seating with RSVP. Become a Tom’s Book Club member by November 15th to receive your copy of Perfidia.

The Chairman of the Board of LARB is Albert Litewka – who also sits on Big Sunday’s Board of Directors!
