Artist Conversation: Auriea Harvey and Eddo Stern

April 14, 2016, 7:00 PM - 12:00 AM

Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 5905 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, California

Website | Email | 323 857-6000

Artists Auriea Harvey and Eddo Stern consider the video game as a form of expression, while avoiding all discussion about whether games can be art or art can be games. They will also discuss virtual reality past, present, and future.

Auriea Harvey is a co-founder of Tale of Tales, a video games development studio based in Ghent, Belgium that designs expressive interfaces to access engaging poetic narratives through simple controls. Eddo Stern is a professor of design media arts at University of California, Los Angeles. His work explores new modes of narrative and documentary, experimental computer game design, fantasies of technology and history, and cross-cultural representation in computer games, film, and online media.

Curator-Led Tour: Frank Gehry

March 10, 2016, 7:32 PM - 12:00 AM

Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 5905 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, California

Website | Email | 323 857-6010

Join Lauren Bergman, assistant curator, department of Modern Art and co-curator of Frank Gehry, on a tour of the exhibition before it closes!

Frank Gehry presents a comprehensive examination of the Canadian-born, Los Angeles-based architect’s extraordinary body of work from the early 1960s—when he established his firm in Los Angeles in 1962—to the present, featuring over 200 drawings, many of which have never been seen publicly, and 65 models that illuminate the evolution of Gehry’s thinking. Tracing the arc of his career, the exhibition focuses on two main themes: urbanism and the development of new systems of digital design and fabrication, including his use of CATIA, a software tool used in the aeronautics and automobile industries, which allows the digital manipulation of 3D representations. This retrospective offers an opportunity to reflect on the development of Gehry’s work and to understand the processes of one of the great architectural minds.
